Leasing Tip of the Day: Share Your Prospects
I’ve got a valuable lesson to share with you today. It’s a simple one, but you’d be surprised at how often it’s overlooked in the world of retail leasing. During my career, I’ve found that one of the most effective ways to find new tenants is by sharing your prospects with everyone around you.
Now, you might be thinking, “Isn’t that obvious?” Well, it should be, but you’d be amazed at how many people miss this golden opportunity. Vacancies are not state secrets, and it’s time we start treating them as such.
I’ve always believed that anyone, yes, anyone, can be a potential tenant or knows someone who might be. So why not spread the word? Tell your friends, your family, and anyone else who will listen. In today’s world, we see people sharing every detail of their lives on social media, from their meals to their pets. Why not share something professionally useful, like your available spaces?
The truth is people love to help. You never know where your next lead might come from—a friend, your child’s friend’s parent, a member of your mompreneur group, a fellow employee, or even a chance encounter while you’re out and about. I’ve personally secured leases during the most ordinary of interactions. It could be a casual conversation at church, a post-little league treat, or a chance meeting at a football game.
But here’s the key: when someone does connect you with a hot lead, be sure to follow up promptly. And don’t forget to show your appreciation to the person who made the connection. It’s a simple gesture that goes a long way in building and maintaining valuable relationships.
So, remember, don’t keep your prospects to yourself. Share them with the world, and watch how your network can become your greatest asset.
Happy Leasing!
